Liisa Pentti is one of the most notable choreographers of Finnish contemporary
dance. She graduated from SNDO, Amsterdam, in 1986. She has worked in
the Finnish dance scene as a dancer, choreographer and teacher since 1987.
In 2000 she formed her own dance company Liisa Pentti + Co. Her works
have been presented in the Nordic countries, Estonia, Lithuania, Germany,
Hungary, Russia and the Netherlands.
In her work, Liisa Pentti explores the connections between bodily and
narrative expression, often using text or onomatopoetic language. She
has taught contact improvisation since 1981 and she has also studied release
and Alexander techniques and t'ai chi with e.g. Mary Fulkerson, John Rolland,
Dick Gilbert and John Yaleneziani.
